Please meet Kembe Daugherty-Boutwell.

NYC MARATHON LESS THAN 6 DAYS AWAY! [Oct. 26th, 2009|02:40 pm]
To all my LJ friends:
I have been training long and hard for the 2009 New York City Marathon for two years now. I had planned on running last year, but ultimately did not get in. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise because little did I know at the time, all the whole wheat pasta and bagels I was eating the night before and the morning of each race and run, was making me very ill. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in June 2008. A autoimmune disease that causes my body to turn on itself and attack my small intestines whenever I would consume gluten and wheat. Luckily the folks at The Celiac Disease Research Center at Columbia University helped me better understand my disease and how to manage it with a Gluten Free lifestyle and get my body well. I owe them a lot! (I run my miles 2 minutes faster now that I am no longer poisoning my body, and it's actually able to absorb the nutrients I put into it).

In special thanks to the Celiac Disease Research center I am trying to raise money to support a wonderful team of Doctors and Specialists who help diagnose and aid in the research and exploration of the hundreds of different symptoms of this disease. http://www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu/CF-HOME.htm

I am super excited to be running the New York City Marathon on November 1st in honor of the Celiac Disease Research Center at Columbia University and I am hoping you can help. I am seeking a modest donation of a dollar per mile I will run. The marathon is 26.2 miles long. $1 a mile= $26.20 dollars. If you want to pledge more than that- wonderful! If you want to make a donation in any amount- feel free to do that too! Any amount helps and all donations no mater how large or small can add up to something big.

Please click on the Donate Button, or link below to donate. My paypal name is under "Cardboardcutout Etsy Shop"- please be assured that all donations will be going to the Celiac Disease Research Center.

Thanks again!

Sincerly,
Anna Daugherty
The 26.2 mile queen!

I pooped my pants for the first time in my adult life today.

After running 20 miles for 3 hours and 34 min, my stomach couldn't deal. (maybe it was the hot chocolate I decided to drink right after?) The sad thing is that I was one flight of stairs from my apartment when it happened. My poor sphincter couldn't hold on any longer. TMI? Bite me.

It's all down hill from here. Depends here I come.

A last minute decision to get some friends together in a private Karaoke Room for my twenty-faux birthday celebration with the only instructions being , drink at least $100 worth of drinks per hour. Mix in wigs, masks, and a birthday tiara and you get some mighty good times.

This was the tamest picture of me all night:

I passed the test I have been studying for for the past couple of months!

I am now a LEED AP!

Not only that but after I got out of the testing room I had a missed call that turned out to be a design firm calling to set up an interview! Hell yeah!!! Best day ever!

Now off to bed so I can get up at 6am and run the Brooklyn half-marathon.

POWER SHOPPER [May. 21st, 2009|03:39 pm]
The past 3 days I have been scoring deals left and right.

John and I upgraded our mattress. The guy at the mattress place tells me the set I want is $1900. ha. I played hardball and ended up paying $760 for the mattress, box spring, frame, mattress encasement, delivery, tax, and removal of the old mattress. I. rule.

Then I sold my old cruiser bike for $250 bucks- $60 bucks less than I paid for it 3 years ago. I was able to buy a brand new SE Draft bike for the same price I sold my old bike for! She's so sleek!
SE-draft dark grey
Now I can actually take my bike up the three flights of stairs to our apartment. I got a discount because I offered to pay cash. Anna scores again!

Then I had my eye on this dwell bedding (we had a full sized bed before so we had to get new bedding)
New Dwell Bedding!
but was not going to pay $300 for it. As I was cruising on my new bike in SoHo I spotted a Dwell sample sale! I ended up getting the duvet set for $100. YES! Victory!!!

So the sucker is in- My Paragard IUD that is. The procedure wasn't so bad- it's these cramps that are making me hate life right now. I was given Vicodin to take the edge off of the cramping for the next couple of days, so I guess I'll be happy once they kick in.

I am looking forward to 10 baby-less years! I don't have to think about birth control again until I'm 35!

Also-why do I find the need to make stupid jokes at the gynecologist? Today it was "I'm ready for my close up!"

So the annoying, very repulican, co-host of the View- Elisabeth Hasselbeck wrote a book called "G-free Diet, A Gluten-Free Survival Guide"

While it's usually good for celebrities to call attention to Celiac Disease so those unknowingly suffering from it might think to ask their doctors, her book is riddled with inaccuracies. Amongst other things,Celiac is incorrectly referred to as an allergy not an autoimmune disease. If you are going to "write a book so you don't have to" as she states in the opening-then get your facts straight. Or better yet-leave the book writing to the Doctors.

During my usual night run last night, I tripped over a tree root/sidewalk and ate it pretty hard and sprained my ankle and a procured a nice bloody road rash knee. Falling hurts much more at 24 then it did when I was 12. Ouch!

So needless to say I won't be running in the all Women's Half Marathon next weekend in Central Park. I am so fucking pissed about this. It was such a great race last year, I was really looking forward to it.

ps. Anyone want to tell me how the hell to use crutches? Am I really this uncoordinated?

The best things in life are not planned... [Apr. 8th, 2009|06:24 pm]
Yesterday I went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens with Alex.
The first blooming tree! It really is spring!

and then I shaved my head
what was once on my head...
The morning after- I still think it was a good idea

and all of these people's heads:
I shaved everyone's head in this picture

Ah spontaneity!

Thank you to the Jews.

Apparently during passover the Jewish don't eat wheat, rye, oats, barley, corn, or soy. This makes Kosher bakeries and supermarkets a goldmine for me! Fuck yes!

Also... we are putting up Shannon's old roommate (Alex) from Berlin while she visits NYC this week. I was giving her a tour of our place and I started to explain that she was welcome to cook in our kitchen but that it is a wheat and gluten free one, etc. And she says, "Are you a Celiac?" I couldn't believe my ears. I forgot how everyone in the UK and Europe knows about Celiac Disease because it is something they test for regularly-and because of that, they have a higher number of diagnosed Celiacs. Apparently her ex-girl friend has Celiac Disease and her father has a serious wheat intolerance- so she knew all about it. Awesome!

This is probably not interesting to anyone.

Earlier today I ran the Colon Cancer Challenge Race in Central Park. It was a 15K race which works out to be 9.3 miles.

I ran it in 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 54 seconds. That equals running a 9 minute 11 second mile the whole time!

I feel awesome!

The best part is that I finally beat the 70 year old man who runs with bells on his hands- which John and I call "Jingle Bells". I beat him by over a minute!

Now I want a piece of "the juggler"- this guy runs every single race while he juggles 3 balls. He never drops them, he never stops, and he always beats me.

Hurray for great runs!
